Research
The development of our society has been supported by drastic
improvement of the computation system based on the semiconductor
integrated circuit technology. However, the semiconductor
circuit technology is facing serious problems, such as
saturation of operating speed and increase in power consumption
caused by the physical limitation of the fabrication technology.
We have been studying novel computation system based on the
superconductor circuit technology. By using the superconductor
devices, ultra-high-speed and ultra-energy-efficient computation
system can be build. Our main research themes are following.
- Study on superconductor digital circuit
that can perform logic operation at the frequency of several
hundreds of GHz with extremely low power consumption.
- Development of quantum annealing machine using
superconductor circuit that can efficiently solve
optimization problems by utilizing macroscopic quantum
effects in superconductor.
- Study on artificial superconductor neural
network that mimics the human brain and can solve
specific problems quite efficiently.
